And now my favourite so far, The Peninsula Istanbul. Why favourite? The reasons are many.
First of all, unique location which combines all the advantages of being on the shore of majestic Bosphorus, yet walking distance to many attractions. The modern name of the area is Karaköy, but there is also historical name Galata linked to Galata Tower which dominates the district.
Galata is one of the oldest and the most historical districts of Istanbul, but it is also important commercial centre, so it is good mix of old and new, authentic and modern. Very shortly, what you can explore without taking taxi from The Peninsula: 10-15 min of light hiking up the hill, and you get to Galata Tower. Surrounding area is a maze of colourful streets, some very busy, some quiet, with some local boutiques and cafe, and tons of authentic local life to be photographed if you like this type of things. Personally, I was in photography heaven there with my Canon camera.
You see, it is quite colourful. But this is not it when I speak about The Peninsula location. Next door from hotel is the most modern and innovative Renzo Piano’s Istanbul Modern Workshop. The project aligns with an ambitious urban renewal initiative, revitalizing the once-inaccessible waterfront from warehouses and government buildings into a thriving cultural hub, hosting Turkish and international boutiques, luxury department stores, as well as an array of stylish restaurants, bars and offices. And this is just steps from The Peninsula Hotel.
Again, this is not it. Sultanahmet district filled with the most precious Istanbul heritage treasures just 30 minutes walking distance away. Famous spice market is 15 minutes away. And… you are on the shore of Bosphorus enjoying tremendous views and luxury resort feeling,
Highly recommended. And do not gorget we are The Peninsula PenClub member – you will be VIP guest with lovely set of exclusive amenities to enjoy.
