Where to stay in Marrakech – La Sultana

Marrakech has so many options to stay that you really need advice of someone who sampled this and that, who knows pluses and minuses of each location and much more. I’m the one. Through the years, I experienced most of luxury hotels of Marrakech, from authentic Medina riads to royal properties and high-branded resorts.

La Sultana is definitely something to consider for your stay if you are looking for authentic experience without sacrificing modern comfort. First of all, the location to speak about. La Sultana is in Medina, the heart and liver of Marrakech, authentic as it is, which means you are in the middle of the most characteristic part of the city as soon as you step off your luxury accommodation. Medina is yelling, smelling, overwhelming, busting with colours, characters, smiles, bargains, and whatever you may expect from Northern African cultural experience. It doesn’t excuse for being what it is, and you either accept it or not – your choice. I should say, this it is amazingly friendly overall, very acceptive, open-minded, multicultural, but, well, it is what it is.

The big advantage of La Sultana is that you can get there by taxi. Keep in mind that most of Medina is pedestrian (well, mopeds and donkeys are not prohibited, and you need to consider them when you are walking around). Yet, you can get to La Sultana comfortably which is a big thing for Marrakech historical city center.

And when you arrive, and step in, you can’t help falling in love with the place.

The property is built from three historical riads (riad is the name for traditional Moroccan house), and each one has its own character, a soul, the details to admire. They definitely went long way from traditional to modern-traditional, and there is no sacrificing of modern comfort for authenticity, but authenticity is still there to amaze and delight.

Each riad has its own courtyard, providing plenty of space to unwind and relax after exploring, walking around, shopping, interacting and having full experience of Marrakech. Swimming pool, internal gardens, cozy corners to enjoy shade and have cup of Moroccan tea – truly home away from home. Well, very beautiful home away from home.

My suite was truly a treat. The only complain (well, not really) was traditional curved doorway to the bathroom…. I guess the time it was created people were shorter (I’m 174 cm tall), and their shoulders where not on the level of those beautiful curves which made me swearing few times before I learned to move through without being hurt.

My sincer verdict, this hotel is a piece of art highly recommended to those who want true Marrakech experience. Please feel free to contact me for reservation, and enjoy!
