Where to stay in Barcelona. Almanac Hotel. Would you like to be in the middle of everything? Almanac. The location is a key. As central as you may wish, if you are in or out. The views, the distance to main attractions – simply perfect. These are the views from my private terrace.

What I absolutely love about Almanac hotels (there is also one in Vienna and one in Prague), it is family owned company. The WSF Group, a Vienna-based, founded in 1990 by Herbert Haselbacher. The Haselbacher family, including Herbert and his daughter Tina, are key figures in the company, which transitioned from owner and developer to also managing their properties as Almanac Hotels. I met Tina in person, and I was quite charmed by her dedication to what she does, and the simple idea of easy going hospitality backed up by family. Like old fashioned meets new fashioned in a good way.

I was in Barcelona for one night only this time, and I can’t imagine better accommodation option for such occasion than Almanac Hotel: all what I wanted (a bit of shopping, a bit of walking in one of the most attractive city areas) was just steps from hotel doors, and quiet evening on the spectacular terrace before next day overseas flight. And oh… the service! Easy, friendly, and prompt. That is exactly what you want when your time is limited, and your expectations are high.
My love with hotel was pretty much from the first glance on the amenity waiting for me in my room: bottle of red wine and some appetizers. I’m red wine lover, and I have no idea how the staff knew that, but their guess was exactly perfect. Well, now is one of my funny travel stories (I have few). I was supposed to stay at Junior Suite with balcony. I love balconies, and I especially asked for the one. But. Something was wrong with one out of two balcony doors. Opening it was easy. Closing it was a challenge. I told reception about it and left for the walk. Half of hour later I’ve got phone call. Well, they tried to fix the door, but it didn’t work. If I don’t mind, they are happy to move me to one of their top suites with large terrace. I would not mind, sure enough.
This is all about service. Issues happen. The matter is how they are solved. Ending in a top suite is something most of my clients would appreciate. I did too.

Well, Barcelona is one of those cities you are coming back again. Too many reasons for that. Almanac Hotel is an option you will enjoy. It concludes two buildings, one historical and one modern. Both are equally good, but if you want your outdoor space, historical building is the one. If you don’t care of outdoor, rooms in modern have lovely bay windows with sofas to enjoy the view. I loved my terrace any way.
