If you experienced Belmond once, you get addicted, no doubts. Well, Belmond hotels are rather expensive, but I never had any single client saying that it didn’t worth the money, because… Belmond is not about money, it is about experience, and when I speak about Belmond hotels, I often describe them like “hotel as a destination”. Because they are, truly.
If you ask me what is so special about Belmond Maroma, I will say without thinking – the people. It is one of Belmond’s perks which works without failure. During 2022-2023 Belmond Maroma went through big (and I mean it) renovation. I loved it before renovation, but nothing bad about investing quite a bit in new spa, modernity of rooms, and whatever makes it even better than it was before. Last time I visited hotel in August 2023, just after soft reopening. By now, renovation is finished, and I can’t wait to be back ones again for full picture.
It is a small property for Riviera Maya, boutique size of just 60 rooms and suites. But the space is abundant, and what is important, you are just a step from the beach from anywhere you are – the territory is a strip between jungle and the ocean, and the ocean is the best possible. Maroma is one of the best (if not the best) beaches of Riviera Maya.
You truly have it perfect: perfect sand, perfect sea, perfect sunbeds, perfect beach service. If seaweed comes with surf (happens in Riviera Maya), it is removed promptly to make sure of your enjoyable swim. And the coral reef is far enough not to spoil your swimming, but close enough to make snorkelling experience easily available.
I’ve been to Maroma few times, and I’m always happy to be back. For me, personally, it is a perfection of Riviera Maya experience: high end, yet authentic, hearty, full of character, easy going and oh… this Maroma beach! The food and beverage are truly good (well, pricey) and attention to details is very special. I always adore Belmond’s ability to ground luxury to local aesthetics, involving local crafts and traditions to interior design and ambience of the place. It is very sustainable luxury indeed.
