Bernard Loiseau in Sauleiu, Burgundy

Relais & Chateaux Bernard Loiseau, set in sleepy Sauleiu village in the heart of Burgundy, may feel like being “in the middle of nowhere” but it worth to visit, stay and dine.

Creature of legendary chef Bernard Loiseau who was holding three stars in the Michelin Guide and had a peak rating of 19.5/20 in the Gault Millau restaurant guide, La Côte d’Or is still on the radar 40 years after it opened its doors and 20 years after Bernard Loiseau died by suicide. Some say that he killed himself because he was about to lose one of his stars, but it can be just a legend which were many following such extraordinary person. The plot of 2007 animated movie Ratatouille is believed to be based on the life story of Bernard Loiseau.

For next 20 years restaurant was under patronage of another starred chef Patrick Bertron, close friend and protégé of Bernard Loiseau. Patrick Berton retired just recently, passing the torch to his right-hand man Louis Filippe Vigilant. I was the lucky one to enjoy his colourful art of cuisine with signature “authenticity of the taste”. What I can say? Amazing!
