Did you know that Lyon has been a silk capital of France and whole Europe for hundreds of years? Traditions of silk making in Lyon start as far as XVI century. Amazing that hand made silk production still exists, and it is not just tourists’ extraction. This little workshop which you see on my pictures keeps making precious fabrics for important palaces and museums, using ancient technology and authentic equipment. Some fabrics are that complicated, that only 15-20 cm can be made during whole day of painstaking work, so the cost is tremendous.
But you know what fascinated me the most? This young guy who follows his family traditions with true passion while he looks so contemporary himself. I had a chat with him, and I asked how come that he works as a silk maker instead of being a blogger, influencer, computer programmer, or whatever is popular and prestigious for his generation. He just laughed. He said that what he does is so much more fun.
