I’ll be honest, I was not very lucky with whether the time I was staying at St Regis Kanai. It was heavenly warm, but overcast. Well, it happens. But walking along the beach with my camera, collecting shells to the pocket of my shorts, watching the birds, feet in warm surf, seven or fifty seven – I felt like a kid returning to my origins.
I may not be exactly an adept of futuristic-minimalistic design, but holding master degree in architecture, I can appreciate when design is spectacular. And this is the case. Hotel is built over massive mangrove with all respect to sustainability and natural habitat, and futuristic structures gracefully fly over the green mangrove field in ballet-light circles (which are respectful nod to Mayan heritage).
When you are in your room, sea looks like it distant, but it is not more than few minutes walking from any accommodation. I was walking to the beach barefoot and bedding suite on – so close, and pretty much no one to meet on the way.
Comfortable modern rooms, mine was with splash pool on the ground floor, so private and secluded from neighbours with greenery – only occasional coati gently walking by the age of the terrace, and bird landing for a minute rest.
Loved my breakfast, especially Mexican corner where tostadas and tortillas are made in front of you. Falcon is to protect your table from the always hungry birds and reminder that nature is all around.
